Becoming an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) is a life-changing decision. For first-time applicants, understanding the correct process and complete requirements is very important to avoid delays, rejection, or problems with documentation.
1. Valid Philippine Passport
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your intended travel date and must be in good condition.
2. Updated Resume / Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Include complete personal details, educational background, work experience, skills, and certifications.
3. Educational Documents
Diploma, Transcript of Records (TOR), training certificates, TESDA certificates (if applicable), or PRC license for licensed professionals.
4. NBI Clearance
Secure a valid NBI Clearance for “Travel Abroad” or “Work Abroad.”
5. Medical Examination (DMW-Accredited Clinic)
All first-time OFWs must undergo a medical examination at a DMW-accredited clinic.
6. Employment Contract
A verified employment contract signed by both employer and employee, stating position, salary, benefits, duration, and working hours.
7. DMW Processing & OEC
Completion of DMW processing and issuance of Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC), which serves as exit clearance.
8. Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS)
Attendance is mandatory for first-time OFWs.
9. OWWA Membership
Mandatory before departure and provides insurance and assistance benefits.
